Embrace the Camera: August 31, 2012

So today embrace the camera is with my littlest guy. He was so brave today having to go under general anesthesia to repair his mouth full of cavities. Going in it was 9 with 2 of them being root canals.

Let me just say I was freaked out! Being the first time any of my kids have ever had to have any kind of anesthesia I was really anxious and worried. Needless to say I got little sleep this week. Last night I prayed extra hard that things would go smoothly and he would come out at the other end ok. My prayers were answered because he did extremely well in there on top of that only one root canal and cap instead of two.

So funny.

Instead of filling the front teeth she did disking so he didn't have to be under so long and they will fall out in a few years anyway. In essence it changed his smile. He is still my guy though.

Now he might be laughing away, but coming out of the anesthesia he was not happy. Complained he couldn't see because he was so groggy he couldn't keep his eyes open. Screamed away for about 10 minutes and then was calm enough to eat a freezie. Sugar free of course. It made him feel a little better and anxious to get home. He gave us all the evil eye the whole way home and tried his best to take off the silver cap which in his mind "tasted weird".

Luckily my good friend Kathy came along one, because they suggest two adults so one can watch them in the backseat on the way home and two, I really needed the moral support. She kept my mind off the fact that my baby was asleep. She is amazing and I am so grateful.  I actually almost lost it watching him fall asleep because he fought it off a little. It was even more torture seeing him wake all confused and scared. I just kept repeating it was over and he did a good job. I didn't want him to think he still had more things to do there.
Monkey
Showing off his new teeth.
After it all I am so thankful he is ok. Not nauseous at all and happy to drink liquids and eat. Besides the first few hours of wobbly walking he seems pretty steady. Hopefully he continues to do well through the night. My guys only had dental work to do. I have a new appreciation for what so many parents go through when they have children having serious procedures done. Being a parent is the best job and your heart is so full that it literally breaks when you see them in pain.

Avenger "HULK" birthday Smash!

Maddox's 4th birthday came in a hurry. I had a my family here and then my father-in-law and then I had 3 days until his party. Phew! I spent more time on the capes and masks than I anticipated, but they were worth it. The kids loved them and I have heard storied of them continuing to play with them.

We spent his actual birthday visiting the golf course and playing just a little bit. It was Friday after all and super busy. Then we went back home for swimming.
He is trying to be so proper for this photo. Funny.

Maddox doing his GQ thing.

So Yesterday as I got my little monkey ready for church he looked at me and said, "I so handsome." I of course agreed and then asked if I could take a picture. I quickly took out my phone, because he changes his mind really quick so I have to hurry and take advantage of the moment. After I took one shot he looked at me and said, "No. Get your awesome one camera. In the black bag." That's right he demanded better quality photos. So I obliged and took a bunch while he just posed and gave me some GQ moves that I have never seen from him before. Even though it seems I have tons of pictures of him he really isn't the easiest kid to photograph. That is until yesterday. Maybe it was because he knew he looked good so he was showing off. Who does that remind you of?

I hope that more opportunities to get some good photos out of him without his crazy faces are in the future because this was fun.

Maddox turns 3!

So I know I have been absent for over a month, but I was enjoying my summer and my family, and well I have been lazy! This year Maddox is Cars crazy. Well when is not not something crazy? If it isn't Cars it is trains or Toy Story or zombies. Yes. Zombies!

I had a lot of fun decorating and preparing for this one. It was actually the first time I actually put effort into Maddox's Birthday. I have put a lot of effort into his cake and the food, but no decorating. Well in hindsight this year is the first year we actually ha beautiful, hot weather. As my mother can attest his first birthday was wet and cold and his second wasn't really that much warmer either.

I didn't really take pictures of decorations, but I had this banner hanging around the deck, down the fence, and across the yard. There were signs for the different stations.

We had Mater's Obstacle course, Fillmore's organic fuel (drink station), Flo's Diner, and Ramone's Body Paint Shop (which my friend Natasha and I painted various Cars characters and symbols). Obstacle course was a hit. I was worried the kids would think it was boring, but I timed them so they had fun doing it over and over trying to better each other. It was a nice hot day, perfect for swimming. Even some of the adults jumped in to cool off. The cake was another hit. I personally wish I would have been more patient with it because it ended up being really messy, but when you are putting it together until 3 o'clock in the morning you just want to get it done. Why was I doing it so late? Well the day before was a really busy day and I wanted to get it done so I wouldn't be stressed on Saturday.

He might not look happy, but he actually loved his cake in fact I caught him just staring at it for a long time before his party even started. This look on his face is actually because he is really worried that someone is going to take his cake or some of the cars on the cake. Not a false worry though because some kids really did want to take his cars from the cake and we all wanted to eat it.

For his actual birthday we went to the splash pad and then the park.

He had to bring his new cars with him. Not only that, but we were at the park and all he wanted to do was play with his cars so we went home.

After the cake I made him I settled for a store bought brownie for his actual birthday.

It was a good birthday so good in fact he continued to think it was his birthday weeks later. So happy birthday to my crazy, loud, entertaining, dramatic, monkey! I love you!

What's on Charity's phone?

So I am in the process of getting a new phone! yes. out of ghetto world I will creep and into the easy life. So hopefully my pics will be awesome because I will love using my camera so much I just have to take pics. I am actually eyeing a really awesome video app that I might just have to purchase! Anyway as far as pics this week not a lot. Between jet lag, snow, -18C, and vomit I wasn't in the mood for many outside adventures.

I know he is goofy, but his shhhh is almost evil.

Walking in the snow. He says that the "no" is fun!

Understated cheese.

This was supposed to be his "I'm mad!" face, but I don't think I caught the essence of it. He came downstairs the other day dragging his blanket behind him declaring that he was mad. It was quite hilarious especially because of his angry face that looked so forced and cute. Apparently he was left upstairs alone by his siblings and that made him mad. Here he finished all of his juice and was mad there was no more.

In the car waiting for daddy to pic up his new chip for his iphone4. Rockin' the new shoes that are slightly still too big for him, but I can't resist putting them on him.

That's it this week, but next week promises to have more goodies. Go link up with Jessica so I can see what is on your phone!

What's on Charity's phone?

Date night at the hockey game. Opening night against Montreal. We won! Oh yeah!
I know this is an old one, but since this is everything I had on my phone some will be old!

So my inspiration for trying to make more interesting and funny posts has started a linky Tuesday requiring me to take more photos with my phone. This week I actually have to admit I didn't get around to taking many, but I did take some. I started crocheting this week. I know who picks up that kind of hobby in their twenties. (So sad I only get to say that for a few more months!) I am weird, but it is fun. I made this fabulous hat for my monkey and decided to also make one for a little guy I know as well.

I am not a fabulous pro at it for sure. I am self taught and still working out the kinks, but I won some patterns from innerhooker on LMM's website. I know it is funny because I usually don't win things. Honestly. I am having fun. I finished the owl hat for McKayla yesterday. I guess I will post pics of it another time. I am just excited I have cute patterns to make great gifts for people! Handmade gifts haven't gone out of style have they?

Anything better than a baby who couldn't make it upstairs for nap time? I was calling him to come upstairs and he wasn't answering. I came down to discover this!
I recognize that this is old too, but as I stated above it was on ma phone!

Yesterday McKayla had to come home from school because she was sick. I really don't think it is serious, but she stayed home today as well just to be safe. Apparently I have become a weak mother and am allowing the excuse of "my tummy hurts with only a slight fever" be enough to keep her home. I guess other mommies should be happy about it. Plus, I should believe her because she actually loves school.

She couldn't have some big test thing or presentation she is trying to get out of, right?

Meanwhile Maddox is truly worried.

So I know it sucks, but that is all I have on my phone. I hope I find more interesting things for next week. So if you want to link up got to Jessica's Page after you create your own What's on _______ phone? and link up!

Is there an actor in the house?

So it all started when hubby took the older kids to go pick out a movie from the video store and left monkey and I in the car. He was not happy he told me, "no fair" and then started to cry as you see in the first video.

Then, after I turned it off he stopped crying smiled at me and then wanted to see the video. So I showed it to him. He started to laugh and then told me, "again?". I said sure so this second video is his reenactment of the ordeal and how much it upset him. So funny. I couldn't believe he was acting it all out for me again! That is just one reason I call him monkey.

Monkey Business

My little monkey's real birthday was a blast. We invited our best friends out to our favorite park to play. It started with sibling sliding which is always so much fun. Then we did the monkey bars (which were my favorite when I was little)...

As you can see Mckayla loves them as well.

and then there is Marcus who does them so seriously!

McKayla is always ready for the camera! candid? Never!

Marcus is normally the hardest to photograph, but I caught him actually enjoying himself.

I found my little monkey barking orders at the others through the jungle gym. His face was so squished trying to get their attention I had to snap a photo.

Then we played peek-a-boo with the camera which is his favorite game. You normally find him running away from the camera.

Ever since we took him to our favorite theme park wonderland he has been afraid of the swing I am really not sure why except perhaps we traumatized him. This is the before photo of when I first put him in the swing. Poor thing he was terrified.

But after some convincing and some slow pushing he finally gave in and tried to enjoy himself. Although you can see on his face he still is not quite sure he likes it.

Then we ate some watermelon which was SOOOO yummy!

Finally, our very best friends bought us ice cream from the ice cream truck that pulled up to the park. My monkey decided on a Rocket which he really enjoyed. He even gave me a few licks. We had a great day and were so happy the weather allowed us to spend it outside. Maddox you are definitely my most entertaining baby. You surprise me every day. I can't believe you are 2. My baby is still my baby.

Maybe tomorrow I will post some photos from his birthday party! He actually loved me taking pictures of him that day!

Turning 2

Well my youngest man is turning 2 today! I love his carefree ways and yes even his "Attitude". To think back at being two years old and what that entails. Must be frustrating when you want to express your creative mind and are not allowed to because every time you try mommy gets upset and you end up sitting by yourself for what seems like forever! Also frustrating when you tell her something very interesting, for instance a story about my legos that was really funny, and she just looks at you and nods her head. Ugh!! The good thing about being two is when you smile and say "I WUV you" mommy gets really happy and sometimes even makes me my favorite fruits to eat or even candy!

I am so lucky to be this little monkey's mommy. I hope that I can be the kind of mom that he needs and sometimes wants. I can't believe it was two years ago I hung out with him at the hospital waiting to bring him home.

He has definitely been a much needed addition to our family. Making us laugh and teaching us about love and how we should give more of it. So go out and bear hug someone that you love. I am.
